Distance And Velocity Chart

Aimbot Targets suggests the following for safe operating distances. When using lead-core full metal jacket ammunition, you want to be at a minimum of 10 yards for most pistols, not including magnums and 100 yards or more for high velocity rifle rounds such as .223/5.56. The main reason for this is that the target will start pitting when struck by bullets travelling faster than 2850 feet per second. When doing so it will preserve the life of the steel target and keep them from breaking or not being safe to use.
